1. Requirements

Bachelor @ LMU: Final grade ≤ 2.5, otherwise a suitability test required (February/August), no application needed, only change of subject https://www.lmu.de/en/workspace-for-students/abc-study-guide/change-of-subject/

External Bachelor graduates: Application until 15th January/15th July, suitability test if final grade ≥2.5
2. Compulsory Module

Two major subjects (inorganic, organic, physical or theoretical chemistry), each 30 ECTS
-
In every major subject, a research internship must be completed (ca. four months, 15 ECTS)

submit registration form at the Examination Office F5.020

in theory, the internship is time-limited, but experience has shown that writing usually takes significantly longer (please discuss this with your supervisor!!)

printing and binding (if necessary) can be done, for example, through the university print shop (link) or at the Papeterie Großhadern

In every major subject, a oral module examination has to be completed (15 ECTS)

Exam dates: January, April, July, October

Three lectures per major subject

Attend five scientific talks (https://www.cup.uni-muenchen.de/news/en/events/?lang=default) per major subject, also GDCh and MChG talks, questions about those lectures might be asked

Examiner: two lecturers out of the chosen lectures

Old exam protocols: can be „rented“ from FSI, bring USB-A drive, 10€ deposit (deposit back + beverage if you bring your own protocol *.pdf)

Talk to the examiner before the exam about topics, details, if necessary the language of the exam…

3. Minor subject and Specialisation lectures / Third major subject

decision: third major subject (see above) or minor subject + specialization lectures (see below)

Minor subject (15 ECTS)

Third chemistry subject (inorganic, organic, physical, theoretical chemistry), specialised subjects (e.g. Chemical biology, pharmacology/toxicology….), computer sciences, physics, for complete list see https://www.cup.lmu.de/en/study/study-programs/master-chemistry/study-program-and-time-tables/

Ca. six weeks internship + oral exam (two lectures)

Physics, computer science: no internship, only written exams

ATTENTION computer science: if you took „Einführung in die Informatik: Programmierung und Softwareentwicklung / Introduction to Programming: Programming and Software Development“ (6 ECTS) during your Bachelor program, you CANNOT do computer science in the Master program!

Specialisation lectures (15 ECTS)

Five lectures of your choosing

6 ECTS Disciplie specific studies possible (e.g. languages, unused Bachelor lectures done during Bachelor program…)

4. Master thesis

Requirement: completed both research internships

Look for a project (talk to the group leaders)

After registration: (get and return the form to examination office): Sis months until submission (extension of the deadline needs to be requested in written form by the group leader)

5. External internship / Master thesis

e.g. Department of Pharmacy (!), industry, research institutes, other universities

look for a supervisor at the Department of Chemistry (related research field)

external master thesis needs to be assed by chairman of the examination committee (application needed!)

at least one research internship needs to be done at the Department of Chemistry!
